  1. Got lots of Hi-8 video tape and a capture card with 720*480 capacity. But I have no DVD-RW driver. Most of clips will trimmed to around 30 mins each after editting. It will be wonderful if I can burn them on CD-R as DVD and play back on my standalone DVD-player. Any information about it is needed. Thanks.

  2. What you're basically asking for is a mini-DVD. I'v actually done a few my self but to find a player that'll play them is kind of rare. I know my player does play miniDVD but it's picky. I think there is a type of header trick that you can use that you can trick the DVD player to think it's a DVD but I haven't looked into that yet. I use miniDVD for TV series DVDs. I get one episode per disc but I have to "shrink" it like crazy, but since it's mostly animation or CG there's not much loss of quality. Hope this helps if anything.

try burning them as svcd - you should get around 45 minutes on a cd-r, quality is not bad, and the format is more widely supported than miniDVD.

  4. My player doesn't take SVCD even with "trick" so I make xVCD 720x480 with VBR. Works great, good quality and plays on most (I think) NTSC players.

If your DVD player accepts SVCD then you can make 352x480 SVCD's. Since this is a legal DVD resolution (1/2 D1), it's easy to convert to DVD at a later date. 1/2 D1 is a good resolution for home video anyway, as it matches the source.
