  1. Hi everyone.

I have been trying to burn some videos, successfully in VCD and not so successfully to SVCD.
The original resolutions vary (some are DVD resolutions, others 320x240 29fps, etc...).
In my VCD attempts, I converted them all to VCD standard using the TMPGEnc template and burned them with Nero 6+ demo. No problems.
My DVD player played them with no hassle at all. Chapters worked, sound was synched, etc...

Later I tried to give SVCD a shot. I used TMPGEnc again with the SVCD template, and they burned and played fine. The thing is, all of the SVCD when reaching approx. 45 minutes play skip a lot, and finally freeze the player.
I read some advices like TMPGenc usually creating bitrate spikes.
I encoded them with 1400 Kbs CBR. Same problem.
I tried removing all complex stuff (chapters, etc...). Same problem.
I tried burning them with VCDEasy and a ISO burner. Same Problem.
    NeroVision Express.Same problem.
    Ulead DVD Workshop. Same problem.
I tried PAL and NTSC (i was desperate). Again skipping
I would have given up, if it wasn't for the following:

    - I scan the converted MPEG for bad frames and it was ok.
    - The MPEGs ripped from the SVCD have no problem at all.
    - The SVCDs play perfectly in my PC
    - The VCDs play perfectly.
    - It doesn't matter the media (Philips, Verbatim, Cheapo...)

Could this be a TMPGEnc problem (I know it is tried and trusted) or the DVD Player?
The DVD Player is a Philips DVD723 which according to the gear list and reviews should play SVCDs ok.
    The files are approx.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance!

  2. take one of your svcd's to a walmart or anywhere else with tons of DVD players hooked up to tv's and test it in there. I can almost guarantee from what you describe that it is a player problem. Either bite the bullet and buy a DVD burner, a new player that supports SVCD's properly, or buy a new one of the same exact model and hope this has been fixed via firmware then return your old one i the box.
