Just bought a 50ct stack of Ritek 4X printable DVD-Rs.

I downloaded the Public Domain MPEG2 copy of Reefer Madness and used TMPGEnc DVD Author to author the DVD and Nero 6.3.0.0 to burn.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but when I went to play the DVD in my player it displayed No Disc, however, obviously, it played fine on my computer with Windows Media Player.

Thinking it may be the media, I burned it on a Fujifilm DVD-R and it played fine in my player.

Anybody have experience with my player (see profile for model) and what media works best with it?

I went with the Riteks based on the many recommendations here, but I hadn't considered the compatibility with my player.

Should I just chalk this recording up to being a fluke or is there and issue with Riteks and my player?

If there is a problem, obviously I can still use the Riteks for data/backups.

Thanks for any insight ( or relief of fears )

It could be one of two things....the worst case scenario being that you got ripped off and they aren't real Riteks...or B grade Riteks.
OR....the downloaded movie may not have been DVD standard....but Tmpgenc DVD Author SHOULD have taken care of that for you I imagine...not a real expert in that area. I've used TDA and really like it but not too familiar with the technical aspects of it.
Try downloading DVDInfoPro ? to see what those discs really are?

Sounds more like a media issue if your dvd plays the fuji and not the ritek, maybe a firmware upgrade might fix that for your dvd burner.Dvdinfo will tell you what type of ritek you have.

Strange this subject has come up. i purchased a tub of Ritek Grade A Media, Purple top, DVDInfo tells me they are RICOH disks. Now I have made many a succesful movie on these disk, until yesterday, they would not play on my DVD Player at all. Tray would just eject them.

The same film burnt to a TDK worked fine.

Simple problem eh, but why did the ones prior to this all work, burnt with Nero 6.3.

Tried using Copy to DVD to write to the Ritek disks, and they work in my DVD Player. However TDK burnt with Nero work fine. The Riteks used to as well, something weird, not been able to figure it totally out.

To the original poster, look carefully at your burning options, perhaps try Copy to DVD.

I also got bit by a RITEKG04 bad batch recently. It was only the bottom half of one spindle (25 discs) and they were Grade A by Ritek sold by RIMA.

I still use MXL for best reliability. $2 each, worth every cent.

    Lordsmurf.

Exactly the same problem. I am down to the last 10 of a spindle of 25. I have been trying out a load of new programs which I thought had messed things up and the big format was due. Boring.

I've got G03's on the way. I'll be checking WAY down on the spindle to make sure they are all the same.
