    Do i need to convert my avi strait to a vcd or mpeg befor i can Brun it to a CD-R & pLAY IT ON my DVD PLAYER?

    You will need to convert your AVI to a VCD compliant mpeg. Check out this guide for detailed instructions. However if you want an easy shortcut that will produce inferior results then just drop your AVI into a VCD compilation in Nero.
