Okay, got a panasonic dvd/vcr combo over the weekend which is hooked up to my pan DMR-E80H. I've tried to hook up the dvd/vcr to my MGI videowave 4/ computer via S video . It captures only stuff from the dvd part ?? What should I do to capture the vcr??
P.S. there's a note in the back of the combo which says "VHS signal is not output from S-video pack". Can anyone recommend a good video capture card or help me solve this?

I recommend buying the CANOPUS ADVC-100 capturing device. It's not a capture card, it's a device that converts analog signal to digital. The source can be S-Video, RCA. It connects to your computer via firewire. If you want to read comments on this device, there are 152 comments in the Capture Cards (Features & Comments) section. It won't take long that you will see how good of a device this is. I personnaly don't have one right now but I'm planning on buying one soon!
Good luck with your capturing!Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a gift and not giving it. -
OK, the recommendation to buy a Canopus is noted (and concurred), but has absolutely nothing to do with the gal's problem!
The problem is not with your capture setup. It appears to be a limitation of your DVD/VHS combo unit.
What the back of the machine is saying is that only the DVD player signals are passed out the S-Video port. Because the VHS transport is not S-VHS capable, it cannot output a signal on that port. So if you connect the S-Video port to your computer you will only get DVD, as you have just discovered.
Try using the Composite output (the yellow RCA jack) for VHS signals. If you don't have a matching jack on your computer, you may need a dongle. My Asus V7700 was the same way; you had to dongle it if the source was not S-Video.
EDIT: Gender. -
Oh Thanks for the responses.. I am a lady BTW
I don't know much about any of this

My apologies!
It's like this...
Some capture devices only have an S-Video jack for video input. So, if you need to connect a Composite source, you have to connect an adapter between the S-Video cable that connects to the video card and the Composite jack that connects to the source. It 'converts' the Composite signal to an S-Video-capable signal. That adapter is also known as a dongle.
Couple of questions. What is the make/model of your DVD/VHS combo, and do you know what video card/capture card you have? -
I have this http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&catoid=-8039&qp=0&bookmark=bookmark_0&oid=80638 and the video card is MGI videowave 4

Hey I got the *hit to work by changing all the connections
I have my cable and my television going into my pan DMR-E80H and connecting to my video card from the pan DMR-E80H via s-video. It works perfectly.. I can watch the dvd/vcr combo through to the pan DMR-E80H too. Thanks everyone
