Okay... I recently picked up a 25 spindle of Memorex 2.4x DVD+RW discs. I was able to use about 3 of them to make copies of existing data dvd's I had using NERO 5.x. A few days later I tried to burn a backup of some files on my computer onto one of these discs and now nero gives me an "illegal medium" error. I have tried this with about 5 of the discs with the same response. In addition I have tried to copy existing DVD's as in the past and it also give me an error.
The drive still records my Verbatum DVD+RW's and my Memorex 4x DVD+R discs. What happened that it will no longer write to these specific RW's?

Try a firmware upgrade. You should try the latest version in DELL support site. I had a similar problem a long time ago with an older firmware for my HP DVD200i.
For your DVD burner you could also try RPC1 firmware: http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/index.html
