I read as many posts as time will allow, but didn't find the answer to this question, so forgive me if it's a repeat...

I downloaded the trial version of DVDXCOPY to determine if I like it. I'm a newbie to DVD burning, and I read in this forum that XCOPY is the easiest for newbies to use. However, after installing and attempting twice to back-up an original DVD, voila! Two new coasters! Am I doing something wrong, or is this the version of the program? There just doesn't seem to be any options for me to mess up! How can I screw up using the proclaimed "So easy a newbie couldn't screw it up" program?
*sigh* I thought this would be easier! I have a new-found respect for all you Pros!

I did figure out how to go DVD to DVD-R using DVDecrypt and RecordNow!, so I'm not a complete moron.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have the trial version or the full version?

BTW, for more information, the coasters I made won't play in or even be recognized in a Sony DVD player, the PS2, OR the PC and DVD burner in which is was written. *shrug* I'm using TDK brand DVD+Rs, in a Sony 530A burner. PC is a Sony VAIO 1.5GB P4 with 384 MB ram. (Can you tell I work for Sony?) The same set-up using DVD decrypt and RecordNow! works fine in all three play-backs.

  5. Try using - media, none of my first tries using + media would work, almost bet the farm that it'll work for you!

  7. I use all + media, but when I started burning I didn't know any better and use Xcopy and all I could get to burn was - media, + for some reason would not work for me. But now that I have been shown the way I trashed Xcopy and moved on to much better programs...

Thanks! I tried tinkering with it a little more, but there are truely only 3-4 things to change settings for in DVDXCOPY trial version, and none of them would cause the issue I'm having. I have to conclude that this software isn't going to back-up DVDs for me, at least not on MY system.

  9. I had trouble when I first used this software, turned out I needed to update the firmware in my Lite-On 411s burner, after that I have had no problems, disk play on all over my DVD players (Philips, Apex, 2 different computers) I've had my best luck with DVD +R's, DVD X-Copy ran a promotion to get a DVD writer for $20, it was a (+) burner so I took that as a hint.
