Just bought myself a shiny new laptop![]()
It's a Multivision Solus 1030,
Athlon XP2500+ (mobile),
Mobile Radeon 9600 64Mb,
and a Panasonic combo DVD-ROM/DVD-R/RW/RAM,
Well, I don't acctually have it yet, but it's ordered.(2 week appx).
I was going to upgrade my PC, but thought, WTH, I'll do that later 8)
Anyway, has anyone else dealt with Multivision? Or know if this particular laptop is any good? As in, will it be OK for games?
Next topic, I would like to share my Broadband with it, possibly wireless. Anyone have any advice? i.e. what is the best wireless format, 802.11g seems to be popular at the minute, but will it interfere with my Bluetooth keyboard and phone?
Sorry to be a pain, but you guys are just so darn helpfull :P

Do you really need the throughput of .11g? For network file transfers and steraming video fine, but 802.11b would be more than enough just for broadband sharing.

802.11g is THE WAY to go, I have had it for three weeks now and it is brilliant. Took me a while to work it out but is great. Have my two (soon to be three) pc's networked and the bloke next door shares my 2mb connection. LAN games all day long, and the beast has even started getting involved (woooohooo!!!!!, there's hope for her yet)
The best thing about it is that you can stream movies from your desktop to your laptop. So I have my lappers hooked up to my tv through the svideo, stream the movie and wham bam on the tv. Not as good as a perfect convertion but no skipping or jittering at all, not bad for 20 seconds. Go with wireless but be warned the firewall is a bastard to say the least. If you want any pointers give us a shout back.

I like the idea of 802.11g's faster speed, but my main concern is still interference to my bluetooth devices. Am I right that 11b and 11g both use 2.4Ghz?? the same as bluetooth? What about 11a? I hear it will use 5Ghz when it arrives???
Perhaps if I give an idea of my intended use,
I have 2 desktop PC's,
My main tower with the all-in-wonder,
and I am in the process of setting up a cheapo VIA Mini-ITX(fanless, so I can leave in on 24/7) for SETI@home, Kazaa, and so on,
then my new laptop when it arrives,
I want to share my 600K cable broadband to all three systems, but only the laptop needs to be wireless. I think wireless routers also have a few fixed 10/100 ports???????We'll be right back after these messages from Binford! -
You will be fine I have bluetooth on my laptop and desktop to integrate with my nokia 8910i and my ipaq 3970, never had any problems.
I have a netgear DG834G router and that has the capability to add four pc's through normal ethernet.
There are 108mb/s products out from netgear but I am unsure to the frequency. -
I have 2.4ghz 802.11b, and 3.4 ghz phones, and I haven't noticed any adverse effects.
