  1. I had a HP 200i that I've been using for a while with good results but it's only a 2.4x writer. I've been using Nero 6 Express to burn.
I just got the NEC2500a and I'm making some coasters. I got 4 DVD players in my home. 1: Panasonic RV-32, 2: Panasonic DVD S25, 3: Mintek 1600 and 4: Toshiba SDP1200 (a portable player)

The only players that will play these DVDs done on the NEC2500a is the the Panasonic DVD S25 and the portable Toshiba SDP1200

I'm using the same media that I used with the HP200i which is TEAC 4X +R media and using the same Nero Express 6.3.0.3

I've tried burning at 2x, 4x and 6x speeds and only 2 of my players will play them.

So what is it in the NEC2500a that made the 2 players not recognize the discs as valid dvds?

I'm going to wait a few days and hope Nero releases an update and I'll watch for a firmware update that hopefully will resolve this. Otherwise I'll have to send it back and try another brand.

  2. Thats an easy question.

    You've been using plus medias.
Now, for example the Pana32 would never play them unless written as DVD-ROM (booktype setting)

The HP firmware does burn DVD-ROM booktype on DVD+R by default where the NEC 2500 fw would not.

    You got two alternatives:
    1. Use DVD-R
    2. Wait till herrie and BKT45 release a booktype hack for the NEC2500

  3. Thanks for the info. Do you know if a firmware change could add that feature? I may just end up exchanging this drive for another. I'm think of a LiteOn 811s which I'm pretty sure does the Bitsetting. Any thoughts on that?

    thanks again,

    Fred

Shame you're having problems with it. I recently picked up an NEC 2500a and am really happy with it. Burned around 25 dvds so far, they play no probs on various DVD standalones (I've leant to colleagues at work, so not sure what each brand they have is), plus PS2. Using cheap orange Bulkpaq's from SVP.
