I just purchased a Sony RDR-GX7 DVD recorder to convert our library of videos from tape to DVD. This is a business with rooms full of tapes that are oxidizing and wearing out, so we decided to convert them all to DVD. The copies made with the Sony DVD recorder turned out nice. The problem is, I need to make more than one copy of each disc. Why can't I get my computer's DVD burner to copy the DVD's made on the DVD recorder. I am using Nero 5 and it seems to only want to copy the first track. There is no copy protect/macrovision on the videos or the disc created in DVD recorder. I need to make multiple copies without having to read the images each time, or for that matter in real time (that would take forever). Does anyone out there have any recommendations?
Can you copy DVD's made on a DVD recorder in a DVD burner w/ Nero 5? Could my DVD recorder's recordings not be compatable with the DVD burner? I am using a Pioneer DVR-104 DVD burner that has no trouble reading DVD's from our clients. Do I need to get another brand DVD recorder?

Try ripping it with DVD Decrypter or any ripper first, then burn it

Just drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder onto the HD and burn it onto the new disc in data mode. Or....
You should be able to do a disc to disc burn in Nero, as long as the source disc has been finalized. If it hasn't been finalized, you'll likely have to stick with the drag and drop deal.
DVD Decrypter might not help..since it was designed to decrypt encrypted dvd's. -
You must finalize DVD-R and DVD-RW media (or so I hear), whereas DVD+R and DVD+RW needs no such "finalize" to work.

I have the same problem. Used a Panasonic E50 to convert the tapes to DVD, but I cannot copy them with my computer burner. My DVD ROM (LTD163) won't read DVDs that were made on the Panasonic recorder for some reason. I was told by someone to get a different drive.

I had the same problem. Doing a disc to disc copy of a disc recorded in a standalone recorder can cause problems. For me it would just freeze up or give all sorts of errors. I don't know why this is.
At first when I received errors I found in the Nero infotool that my DVD+R recorded in my standalone recorder had errors. Impossible! I tried the same disc in my Pioneer DVR-106 and no errors at all. Turns out my Pioneer DVDROM drive would not correctly read DVD+R media (any brand!). I tried another DVDROM brand and same thing. Only when I picked up a cheap $99 DVD+R writer could I copy these discs correctly. I could have simply just made an image to disc first but it's a waste of time. I myself probably burn 200 discs in a week, if not more than that.
I don't see why you would need to use a program like DVD Shrink first. The discs are not encrypted. How could they be? My latest problem is that ULEAD doesn't read more than 2 chapters of my original DVD recorder discs!
What I hate is how these DVD recorders don't have an option to turn off/disable menus on the discs. What I am going to just do now for certain discs is just do the following:
Convert VOB files to MPEG using MPEG2CUT (don't know if it'll work, just started looking into it)
Load Nerovision Express and create a new DVD project with new chapter stops and NO main menu. Since the original source is VHS I have no need for a DVD menu, just chapter stops.
When I record a VHS tape to DVD I usually just save a final disc, a SOURCE disc and copy from that. Usually using the original disc from a recorder causes me lots of problems. Be nice to figure out why.
And yes I use good quality PRINCO media..only the best..just kidding. Usually ARITA (which is RICOHJPN01) and Memorex (my favorite media to use, lots of luck with it) -
Actually dvddecrypter ISO file mode should work. It just makes a perfect copy of the disk.
