i want to join two 1 hour programmes into one large file so that i can encode them using tmpgenc overnight but i cant seem to get my captured files to open in any editing tool ive tried so far, what format does my canopusADVC capture in using WINDV i thought it was avi but ive tried to open these in a few programs and they dont recognise it!!! any suggestions of programs that do this!![]()

I have the same problem. I can't get anything to open up what I captured. I want to burn to dvd, but I cannot open the mpg in anything.

windv, like several other capture apps. gives you the choice to cap to type 1 or type 2 dv. Type 2 seems to be preferred/required by a good number of editing/authoring apps. See Glossary for more info on AVI and DV.
efiste2 - one thing you might do with your two exisitng files:
If TMPGenc accepts them as is, go ahead with your editing/ encoding using batch encoding and then using TMPGenc's MPEG Tools menu, simply merge the two mpeg files into one, if that's what you want.
If needed, Canopus support should have a free convertor utility for download.
