Can anyone help? I have a XVID file that I am trying to put on DVD. FPS is 23.976 which makes it a SVCD, doesn't it? The audio is MPEG Frauenhofer which I convert to wav using Virtualdub Direct Stream & likewise the video to AVI, then I encode it with tmpgenc and twice the audio synchrosie has been fine, but with other tries it hasn't, so I don't want to try with the whole file just yet until I am sure what I'm doing.

Someone did suggest that I add the audio seperately as tmpgenc doesn't like mp3. I have tried both separately and together with tmpgenc.

Can this be corrected once encoded? I hope s.o. knows the ansa I dont

    No, that makes it NTSC.

No, that in itself doesn't make it a wav, even if VirtualDub sticks a .WAV extension at the end, and adds some wav header. Using Direct Stream, you get the audio in whatever format it is in the AVI, and has to be converted to wav using some AC3/MP3/??? to wav converter.
    likewise the video to AVI
Why? It is in AVI format already.

Bad sync is mainly caused by:
    • The AVI contains bad frames. There are guides for correcting this, but generally, if you don't have plenty of spare time, it's usually not worth the trouble.

You're trying to encode a NTSC AVI as PAL or vice versa. Dont. Either encode in the same format as the source, or do a frame rate conversion on the source material before encoding.

  3. Just posted this exact message for someone else

Open the avi file in virtualdub, under audio select full processing mode and no compression, then save wav. This will save your audio stream as an uncompressed wav file, so it will be large, approx 10MB/min. Then use this wav file as the audio source in tmpgenc.

If the audio is mp3 with variable bitrate, you need to use full processing mode with no compression. Not direct stream copy. By using direct stream copy you are just stripping the audio out as it is, it needs to be uncompressed.
