  1. I am attempting to convert an mpg2 file at 3k cbr to a vbr bitrate using tmpgenc v 12. I had captured the file with the ATI all in wonder Radeon using Power VCR on an XP O/S. I have attempted to convert from 640x480 to 480x480 svcd at a vbr by doing the following:

Kept the file as is - This resulted in a very choppy framerate.

Demuxed/Muxed the file and converted - This kept the file at 640x480 despite the settings.

I have also tried all other versions of Tmpgenc, but it will not allow me to open the source video.

Does anyone have suggestions on converting to a usable SVCD file?

  2. Are you sure that this unspecified conversion changed the file to 640x480? Assuming you have the appropriate directshow filters to playback mpeg2, directshow compliant players (such as windows media player) will automatically resize the video on playback...

As for opening the source video, frameserve! DVD2AVI works with any MPEG2 source, not necessarily DVD. Use VFAPI to load it into v-dub then frameserve to TMPG.

It should be obvious that TMPG, a MPEG2 encoder, isn't going to open MPEG2 streams as input!

  3. Try flask>>output to bbmpeg. Some ppl say bbmpeg doesn't produce good mpeg2s. http://www.videotoosl.net

    Try flask>>frame serve(avisynth or frame-server)>>tmpgenc.
