I have been capturing with Pinnacle Studio 8 for a while now, and when I capture I use the custom setting, selecting YUV2 as the compression, and everything has been working fine. Until now. I captured some video last night (just a few minutes as a test to play with), it played fine, looked OK, and now this morning it won't play. I can capture using YUV2 (in Studio 8 ), but I can't play the video. Windows says that it doesn't have the correct codec to play the video, and asks if I'd like to download the codec, but when I do, all it will play is the audio. I've had this problem (a few months ago) when I installed a trial of some software, and after I uninstalled it and ran system restore everything went back to normal. But I didn't install any new software last night. All I did was defrag my HD. I ran system restore to reset my system to the settings from 2 days ago (I figured since everything worked yesterday, I'd go with 2 days ago to be safe). It didn't help. Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?

    Thanks

That is a problem that is becoming more common but never solved. I had a problem like that recently and uninstalled everything except the program that gave me trouble and it still didn't fix the problem. The only thing I can think of is a system file gets changed or corrupted. It doesn't have anything to do with any program directly. A program can cause the problem once installed but the problem stays after uninstalled. Only thing to do really is reinstall windows. It's faster than time consuming problem solving.

I finally got it to work again. I ended up uninstalling Studio 8, restarting my computer, then re-installing Studio 8. For some reason I had to uninstall, restart, and re-install it twice before it started working again. I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to re-installing Windows. Now I've just got to install all the upgrades/patches to Studio 8...

    Thanks for your help
