  1. I have a few home made DVD's that have paper labels on them and every time i try to copy it i run into a problem of read errors probably secondary to instability due to a paper label.

Is there a solution to this? How can I copy these? They play fine in a regular home DVD player.

    Thank you.

Is this a standard circular cd label, or is it a smaller one that's only on one part of the disc's label area? If the latter, you could always try sticking a similar sized label opposite to balance the disc out...

If you think the problem lies with label, you may want to consider removing it. There is a thread on this site that describes how to do it. It mentions something like coating the disk with WD-40 and sliding the label off and washing the disk.
    Hello.

  4. I'd assume that would be pretty risky. If just one spec of dye comes off the disc will be basically useless.

  6. I made a mistake by posting in one forum and now you are jumping on me?

I thought a moderator should be someone who is knowledgable enough and offer some help, rather than criticism regarding crossposting. One mistake is not a great deal, and since I just joined I would have thought you could have been a bit more friendlier.

Now if you could offer some help regarding the issue I would appreciate it.

    Thank you.

Not possible. Not on DVD. No dye can come off.

Umm... "please do not cross post" is jumping on you and being unfriendly? Tell you what, I'll give you $10 if you can come up with any nicer way to word that. If you think Bugster was being unfriendly there, then your sensibilities are waaaay too delicate for the internet. I shudder to think what would have happened if FulciLives had answered your question.

It's the heat building up inside the DVD-ROM reader that causes the reading problems.

    ps.

haloblack is right, just say you're sorry, get over it and continue reading and posting on DVDRHELP.

That may actually work, though I hope the discs seal is good. If water hits the foil, goodbye movie.

I believe if Bugster would have been a little more human than just behaving like a robot ... automatic display type of response than this topic would not be displayed. Put yourself in his shoes ... say your headed to class and you had to walk through the rose garden ... no harm done ... no roses were knocked off ... but someone spoke to you in a similar way.
Can the person jumping on you speak in any way he chooses or would you prefer a little bit of compassion ... without getting any hint of sarcasism back.

In other words ... Bugster ... could have been a little bit warmer but since he didn't ... he offended someone.

Karma ... What goes around ... comes around ... I guess Bugster is a completely perfect person ... who doesn't make any mistakes.

I really don't want this to turn into a topic of it's own. I am a Substance Abuse Counselor ... and I tend to analyse things ... Empathy is one quality we all need to practice with other people.

had to walk through the rose garden? Why would you HAVE to walk through the rose garden?

Would your feelings really be hurt if some said "please don't walk through the rose garden"?

  16. The way I see it....

I'm not sure how many members there are at this forum, I'd say not far from 100,000. Imagine every member double posts! That's a lot of work for the mod's, and it's a lot of double posts. We have rules for a reason, doesn't take long to read them, and if we all followed them, it would make the forum a lot better.

    Dont you think?

figure of speech ... you didn't have a teacher who marked you late if you weren't sitting in the chair ... when the second hand was straight up??

Presto ... You are right ... I read bugster's "Please do not cross post - once is enough

    /Moderator - Bugster"

... yes he did well ... he did use the word "please"

I haven't made multiple posts in DVDRHELP ... but I have in Doom9 ... oooh ... weee ... I caught hell in there. But I wanted help and I wanted it fast and I wasn't sure exactly which area to post in ... DVD Authoring or IfoEdit ... so I did both. LOL

Took about a whole month to find the solution ... combining two separated DVD title sets onto one DVD [flipper DVD] ... eventually DVDShrink 3 B 5 ... blazed that trail.

LordSmurf ... yes people do get upset over small things. A psych major student can easily write a term paper on that subject.

But enuff is enuff ... unless we find all this fascinating ... actually I'm up for debate ... I've reached a DVD Ripping - Authoring plateau ... I'm pretty much satisfied.

I'm getting ready to watch "UnderWorld" ... ummm Vampires and werewolves ... my kind of movie ... and then I'm going to rip it. EEEHHAAA.

  19. This is not really helpful, but dvd's are quite tough..

I had a video store dvd, the label kept on making my stand alone vibrate really really bad (stupid sodding video people!!) - I ripped it off, and a chunk of the coating came off too - I could see through the disk!!

I put it back on, using the reside of the label to hold it down - and the dvd played perfectly!!!! LOL I couldn't believe it!! Maybe my stand alone has excellent error control/corrction..??

  20. That is REALLY strange!! You must've put it on exactly the way it was. lordsmurf said that the dye can't come off.... I guess maybe it depends on what brand you use or something, even though you'd think all dvds are made in the same way.

  21. Seems more likely that the DVD wasn't "full". You may have ruined a part that wasn't written on anyway.

Also do Hollywood DVD's use dye? I know our home made ones do but I thought the "real" ones were pressed. (whatever that means)

Dvd`s that are pressed means that a special stamp is made of a movie and each disc is stamped as opposed to burned for that certain movie.

No. You made a mistake by posting the same question in two forums, not one. No biggie, I locked the other one. Now you only have to look in one place for your answers.

I wasn't criticising, just correcting a mistake. It is one of the jobs we Moderators do. You are the only one making a big deal of it.

Cross posting is not allowed by the Forum AUP. When new members do it we simply close or lock the ones in the less appropriate forum(s). Informing the user by posting a reply to the remaining topic and asking that it not be done again is usual practice and not any form of admonishment, just a gentle hint.

I would if I could but I have never encountered this particular problem so do not have a solution to offer. I just happened to spot the same post twice on the 'latest posts' page and corrected the error.

You're probably right - I guess I screwed up the 'extras'. Hehehe - I dunno why they bother with the extras; I mean, who really wants to listen to a director prattle on about the hidden meaning behind why he got an actor to stand *just* there...

Dunno about dvd's, but cd's commercially are pressed, guess dvd's are too?

No. A CD has plastic on one side, dye on top. A DVD has plastic on both top and bottom, dye sandwiched, cannot pul it off. Not on ANY disc, unless you rip off plastic too.
