just got myself a DVD burner 2 days ago and would like some of u more experienced ppl to clear up some things for me
I understand that most comercial DVD now days are dual layerd DVD-9
that are produced in a machine that presses the 2 layers together
which makes it impossible to do a 1 to 1 copy unless you split it to 2 DVDR's
what I would like to know is, approximately how much compression to done to the video/sound stream of a DVD when it's backed up to a single 4.7GB DVDR. I'm just talking about the main movie and a single DD5.1/DTS audio stream, no extras what so ever.
what's the quality like? and I'm not talking about watching it on a dinky 13"
but on a 42" or larger WD HDTV
lastly I need to know how much computing power is needed to do the DVD backup. I'm going to install the drive on a P3 800 with 512MB RAM, is this feasible or will it take decades?
thanks!

Just set it up and go to bed. It'll probably be done when you get home from work tomorrow evening. haha. (Just kidding again)
In other words, don't shrink it any more than you haft to because that process is probably going to take the longest.

Convert what DVDShrink gives you to an .IFO file with IFOEdit (also free).....then burn the .ifo file with DVDDecrypter (FREE again) in ISO(same as IFO) WRITE MODE.
You'll get a DVD that auto starts the movie as soon as your DVD player recognizes it as a DVD.
All free and I learned it all from the guides on the left.
Good luck to ya....and have fun.
