I have recently purchased a Sony U14A DVD + and - RW drive.
The question I have is this:
Should I be able to PLAY original DVD movies using this drive or is there something in the drive preventing me from doing this?
When I try to play originals, the picture and the sound is all broken up and skips.
However, in the same PC I have an older DVD-ROM drive, and this plays originals fine.
If I try copying a DVD movie, I have problems if I use the Sony to rip the movie to the Hard Drive (using DVD decrypter.) However if I use the older DVD-ROM drive for the ripping, then use DVD Shrink, I can write the shrunk movie to a blank DVD-R using the Sony, and this works fine on my set top player. The frehsly recorded movie also works fine when i play it back in the DVD-ROM drive, but not in the Sony - which is the drive that recorded it in the first place!!
So.... should this drive be able to play DVD video disks? Am I doing something wrong? I know there is no problem with my PC as the other drive plays the DVD's fine. I have tried upgrading the firmware on the DRU-14A to the 510 firmware amd then version D (the latest I believe?).
The firmware updates have worked perfectly, but unfortunately have not resolved this issue.
Does anybody have any ideas? I know I could carry on using the DVD-ROM drive for ripping, and the Sony for writing, but I don't really want to do this, and if the drive is faulty, will want to get it replaced under warranty!
Please help
Thanks in advance
Mike.
