I have a few SVCDs that I attempted to convert to DVD.
I have burnt the original SVCDs and they play perfectly in my Sony DVP-S7700. I have also burnt DVD Backups using DVDXCopy and they play with no problem.

A quick rundown of my setup:
    Athlon 3000+ (400fsb)
    1 gig ram, (DDR3200)
    Windows2000
    HP external USB 2.0 DVD+RW

I have purchased SVCD2DVD and followed this guide to the "T":
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/159399.php

I have Burnt the DVD with both Nero and Copy2DVD and get the same results.
Both times I get these two problems.
    1. No text in the menu (I see it is common).
    2. I get great video and sound quality, but my video is split.
3/4 on the left is squished narrowed, and the remaining 1/4 on the right is a duplicate of the 1st 1/4 on the left.
    So it looks like this:
12341 (all squished to fit) instead of 1234 (normal width)

I have searched the forums, and the only thing I have found is a possible mpeg2 decoder problem. I have only installed InterVideo WinDVD 4 for mpeg2 support. If I play the ifo in WinDVD it plays with no problem and I have text in my menu.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Ah - just re-read your post!

ok - have you tried the PAN & SCAN setting? (Even maybe try the PAN & SCAN sample on svcd2dvd.com on DVDRW first)

The symptoms are identical to the Pioneer.....

I wish I had a DVD+RW to use... oh well, I can always use more coasters..

I will re-author it with Pan+Scan, if it works, I'll have what I want... either way, I'll let let you know here.

    Thanks for the speedy response.

I have now tried twice with the "Apply Pan And Scan Info" selected.
It seems to proccess just fine, but pretty quick, 25 minutes for 2 hours of video..

When I look at my output folder.. all of my VOBS are tiny.

Before my vobs looked like this:
    VTS_01_1.VOB 768,594 KB
    VTS_02_1.VOB 766,958 KB
    VTS_03_1.VOB 767,762 KB

    Now they are:
    VTS_01_1.VOB 77,042 KB
    VTS_02_1.VOB 75,138 KB
    VTS_03_1.VOB 74,880 KB

When I try to load the IFO in WinDVD, it'll start the video, but then hangs in the first few frames.

I can post my log file if it'll help... It is pretty long even after I clean up the percentage counter.

    Thanks again

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm seeing this type of horizontal squeeze on a DVD+RW I burned from a Tivo ty stream (using TyTool). I thought that maybe your solution (if you had one) would help in my situation too.
