  1. I have been trying to get a dvd-+r to work in any standalone player for some time now. I started with an xvid movie, which I used DVD2SVCD to convert to dvd compliant video. Then I took the mp2 audio file and converted it to ac3, and then I used ifoedit to author the dvd and make the vob files etc. Then i used nero to try to burn a dvd-video disc. I have the audio_ts and video_ts dirs in the cd. I then tried my disc on 3 different dvd players, a toshiba SD5109, a panasonic DVD-RV31, and some other cheap toshiba player. All saying disc error. Then I decided to use imagetool classic and make an iso of the 2 directories and use dvd decryptor to burn the image. This disc said disc error in the nice toshiba, the panasonic would start to spin up and act like it was going to work and then would display "stop" and then it would stop. And the cheap Toshiba would say play and continue to make quiet clicking noises and never play the disc. The discs I am using are Imation DVD-R. I also tried Memorex DVD+R on the nice Toshiba which also resulted in disc error. Is there anything I could be doing to cause this besides needing to try even more different discs? I'd appreciate any help you guys could offer, I have made 5 different dvds just today trying to figure this out but to no avail, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

  2. I forgot to add I am using a NEC 1300a internal drive in an external enclosure with usb on my laptop that doesn't have usb2.0. So when the discs burn they burn really slow (.6x) I have a usb2.0 pcmcia card coming in the mail which will help the speed but I don't think this would cause the problems I am experiencing.

Using IfoEdit to author is not the best solution if your doing a NTSC movie. Try downloading TMPGEnc DVD Author and use it to author your dvd.

If you want to know if your player will accept DVD+-R and eliminate that as a potential problem why not try a different method.

I know you spent a lot of time converting and xvid plus the audio etc... but....

    Here's what I would do.

    1) Rip One of my store bought DVD to HD
    2) Use DVDshrink to get it down to fit on 1 DVD
    3) Burn the new DVD to DVD+R or DVD-R
    4) test it in my player(s)

If that works then you know it's not the media and that the problem is your process in your previous attempts and you can start to discuss those issues.

This is simple and eliminates a lot of second guessing as to whether you made process errors which are causing your player(s) to reject the discs.

  5. I can't make up if you made a DVD or a DVD-SVCD. But if you made the last one you can stop trying the panasonic DVD-RV31 see its information in the players list

To see if you made a proper DVD with ifoedit you could always take it through dvdshrink. If dvdshrink says it got no errors in 99,9% of the cases it will play on your dvd-player. If it gives an error you better burn it on a DVD-+RW and test it before burning it on a DVD-+R
