  1. Hi.

I recently bought a ATI all in wonder PRO pci 32mb RADEON and i capture in mpeg-2 and when i am done recording it saves it as a (.mp2) now i want to encode it to .mpg or VCD... TMPG wont do it cause it doesnt support .mp2, only .m2v and .m2p..... so can someone tell me please how to encode it...

And another thing.. please someone show me how to capture decent quality in mpeg-1, 640*240, and plz so it can equal 1min=10megs... plz cause i really need to know...

And I know some people....OK most people think this is a crappy card but hey, $316 CDN w/ tax dont matter for me.....i just wanna know the .mp2 prob and the capture 1min=10meg prob... thats all and one more thing, i dont got the ADVANCED SETTING button on the "Digital VCR" tab? why is that?

  2. Hi,
First, change the (mp2) to (mpg) you can do it as you save the file. The moment you change it your Video file players will read it.
Second, We are both waiting of a bitrate genius.
Third, I purchased mine for the larger video recording appertures.

  3. Hi,

Just rename the files to MPG and that should work fine. You might need to use DVD2AVI on them first to get TMPG to use them properly though

  4. Yes i renamed it to .mpg, i always did, but i thought leaving it can be more of a better quality. Secondly, I did use DVD2AVI and when i follow the process, it's suppose to finish leaving it wth a .wav and a .d2v file... Unfortunately it only leaves you with a .d2v file and no .wav, meaning cannot follow STEP 2 and finish encoding it with TMPG... Umm, how about i capture it in .AVI and then encode it to mpg....i know the size will reduce it but will it work as 1min=10meg? well plz write back thnxs

  5. Changing the file extension to .mpg won't affect the quality at all

With DVD2AVI make sure you have auto-select on for audio format and track 1 selected. This should get you your WAV file. Always works for me

  6. D'oh! Didn't check my files properly before my last post. Using DVD2AVI the way I told you will produce an .mpa file which is just the audio in MPEG-1 layer II format (which is what you want anyway). Just load the video (.d2v file) in to TMPG and encode. Then mux the video you've just created with the audio that you've already got.

  7. I do that but when i load the .d2v i says cant open or not supported....and yes i downloaded the plugin because i loaded .d2v files before..... is it cause when i choose when to capture and when to end it , i choose like half way through so i can just test it. Is that why?

use the tool in my sig to make good quality MPEG-1's with AIW and MMC 7.x ...

not sure about that size - but it should work just fine

also ATI uses an odd naming convention = mp2 should be the audio for an MPEG-2 but ATI uses it to mean any MPEG-2

renaming it means it's a MPEG-2 with a .mpg extension

the extension doesn't really matter. what's in the file is what matters. to learn how to reencode, try reading the "HOW TO CONVERT" section on the left. that covers mostly any encoder available.

1min=10Mb is essentially the VCD standard bitrate, 1.15Mbps. so no offense, but you won't get high quality at 640x240 or 640x480 from ATI or anything else for that matter. it's just too big a picture for that bitrate. you can get decent quality if you try 352x240 at 1.15Mbps (change under custom profiles). or you van get good quality 640x( ) captures by increasing the bitrate to whatever suits your needs. my guess is around 2.2-4.0 Mbps should be fine.
