I'm making a home movie for my mother for Christmas that will include DV captured and 8mm converted and captured AVI video and still pictures. Most of the still pictures (some of which are 75 to 100 years old) were scanned. I'm using Pinnacle Studio DV7 to edit and produce my movie segments rendered to AVI. I'm using TMPGEnc to encode these AVI segments to MPEG2. I'll probably use Dazzle DVD Complete to Author my DVD.
Anyway, my question is simple (I hope). What resolution and image size should I use for the still JPEG pictures that I'm planning to drag and place on my movie timeline in Studio DV7? The scanned pictures were scanned at a minimum of 400 dpi, and some were even scanned as high as 800 dpi.

Always scan the pictures at the resolution they are. Any higher and you waste disk space, and any lower you lose data. Video Studio 7 can resize any picture no matter the size, so go for it.

Glad it worked out for you. Now everyone wants it on DVD, right?
