I have 6 jpeg images I want to use in a video project. I place the images in different spots on the timeline according to the associated video file.
PROBLEM: one of the images (which I will refer to as JPEG1) displays as a blank (black) frame in the assets bin as well as the timeline. all the other 5 images display properly. I can view JPEG1 in any other program so it is a valid jpeg graphics file. I tried editing it in Photoshop, saved it as another copy of JPEG1, and the result is the same in Premeire. I moved JPEG1 to different locations on the timeline, both on the Video1 layer and Video2 layer...same blank frame.
Using the same setup I have been using for years. never had this issue before. Premeire v6.5, Win2000 SP4, 1.25G RAM, etc.
any suggestions on a resolution? thanks.

Premiere 6.5 does not support jpeg image. Use Paint and convert your JPEG files to bmp.

Premiere 6.5 does support jpeg files, I use them with this program all the time and with no problems at all (you have to render your timeline to see them as video), and for what I can see in your post, your other jpegs have no problem. There may be something with that particular image (does it have the same attributes as the others?framesize, bitdepth, RGB, YUV, etc..maybe alpha channel, etc...?check it in Photoshopīs Image menu/Mode)and yes, Iīd also also converting to BMP. Good luck

thanks all for your response. The attributes are all the same from the same source. no need to render the timeline; just click to play from the position you want and you should see the video and images in the preview window.
Will try the bmp route and report back. -
Update update...
am able to place graphics on timeline now, add text overlay to these graphics, render timeline, transcode video project (which has 2 mpeg video files joined together on the Video 1 layer and an audio track in addition to the images) to Quicktime via Terran (Discreet) Cleaner v5.12 and Sorensen 3.1 Pro.
Cleaner analyses, encodes and flattens the project, but then cannot open the finished QT video as it usually does after the flattening stage. QT player locks up (not responding). The finished output from Cleaner is saved to my HDD, but I get the same error when I try to open it thru the Player, VLC, and other players. VLC lets me play it for a half-minute then it locks on the last frame it was able to play.
will try to play video on another computer today and see what happens.
I completed a project last month with no issues. no new software installs. But I did pull out a 256M RAM module and replaced it with a 1Gig one. everything seems ok though. been about a week since the RAM upgrade.
any thoughts as to what might have happened?? any suggestions for a resolution?
Thanks. Noki -
Do the project settings match the outputīs ? (framerate, etc..) I use Premiere 6.5 but keep my workflow .avi (then mpg/DVD authoring, etc..) and have very little experience (mostly bad) rendering to quicktime (in a pc enviroment anyway), I surely must have missed something. And havenīt used Cleaner either. My suggestion would be to select a part of the timeline and render it to letīs say an AVI DV movie and see how the new clip behaves, just to see if the clips on your timeline are rendering properly. Also you could load that AVI clip into Cleaner and see if the .mov file plays properly (I know this adds an aditional and probably unnecessary step but...)
The memory upgrade shouldnīt be an issue, on the contrary. has the program (premiere or others) closed suddenly or frozen?
Good luck -
hi julitomg
Project setting is not important since I do not use Premiere (directly) to output the finished video. I like the idea of cutting the video since rendering time is long due to the length of the video. Then I can put this shorter segement thru Cleaner and see if it plays. Else I might save the premiere project as uncompressed AVI, then import that AVI into Cleaner directly.
But I do not see Premiere or Cleaner as the source of the problem since the wokflow progresses thru these 2 apps fine until Cleaner tries to play the completed transcoded video it produced. It does it thru Quicktime itself I believe, either directly or thru a QT plugin.
and yes Premiere does lock up since I am generating the finished video thru the Cleaner plugin. Cleaner also locks up. I can close those 2 apps and continue since it is not a system lockup.
QT is the perferred format for my clients since they are running QT streaming servers.
thanks for your time and thoughts.

More updates...
problems was a corrupt Cleaner file. reinstalled 5.12 as well as QT 6.52 just for good measure and it worked...except......
final video has an audio glitch at the beginning of the second video segment. best described as a duplication hiccup for about 1 second, with a resultant lost of another second and a half of audio before the audio catches up with itself.
I've tried to correct this by unlinking the video from the audio for this segment, cutting out the 1st second of audio, and render/transcode it. got rid of the hiccup, but did not recover the missing portion.
The errant app is Premiere this time. I started a new project with just this segment on the video layer and the preview shows (plays) this hiccup and missing sound from the get go. don't think it's an audio codec issue since the sound is there, and there are no errors on the much longer 1st video segment.
This segment plays correctly in all other video players i have (VLC, MPC, powerDVD, etc.).
tried converting this segment into another format but problem in Premiere with the resultant new format is still there.
Anyone have any suggestions?
thanks in advance.

Client excepted transcoded video even with the audio glitch. seems the video quality superseded expectations of a perfect audio track. lucked-out this time....
