Ok so here is how the problem goes....
My Setup is as follows
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon XP 2500+
ATI Radeon 9200 128MB
512MB, 256MB Crucial PC2700 DDR
120GB, 80GB WD 8MB Cache
Lite-On 24x Cd Writer
Pioneer 106D DVD Writer
Has previously been clocked up to an XP 2900 equivalent but the cpu temp has never
gone over 55c under full load, cooling is enough.
The problem is with MPEG files as far i can tell only, when i vcd gear a scene released
vcd or svcd and try and run it under power dvd, the picture glitches every so often
and there are sometimes sound pops.
Unraring the release to bin/cue and then burning with an image burning program such as
nero or alcohol 120 also results in exactly the same problem. This problem occurs on
both playback through the pc with power dvd and when i play it on my sony dav-s550
standalone system. The sony is capable of playing svcd and vcd fine as i have a huge
collection of older burnt images that play fine. The problem on the sony is that it
hangs and i'm guessing this to correct the glitches, so every few minutes it stops for
a few seconds and then readjusts to play the disc.
Things i have noticed -
When i playback through windvd, it does not glitch, however i never used to use anything
other than power dvd and it always worked fine. I watch most of my films through my sony
standalone so the aim is to get them working on that again properly. The machine was built in
August and thus I can't really remember if the machine has ever been able to burn discs
without this problem as my memory is crap
Things ive tried -
Format
Burning on dvd writer instead of cd writer
Memory test with memtest (came back with no errors)
Checked IDE channels are setup for correct DMA
Bar this problem, the machine seems to run fine, occasionally on boot up, the onboard voice
for system boot up will say that the memory has failed the test but it then boots in to
windows fine??. The machine does not randomly reboot or anything like that so I can't really
narrow the problem down any further than that.
Please Help as to what i can test and how i can narrow the problem down to something)
