  1. I just had my Aspire X-Dreamer II delivered yesterday from NewEgg. I don't have my mobo or anything yet...

Just to see the fans and LEDs in, i connected them and plugged it in, turned PSU oin from back, but nothing happened.. no PSU fan, nothing...
This is my first time building a computer..

Is the power supply dead? I hope not
If it is dead, then should i send back to newegg for replacement (w/ shipping both ways [10.00$] i think for RMAs) or just get a better PSU .. i have a budget.

I heard others' also came w/ dead power supplies, but i didnt think it would happen to me ... Aspire needs quality control///\\\

    So is the PSU dead?

I believe the power supply won't turn on without the case's power switch plugged into the motherboard. Your powersupply is fine!

Havaham is correct. The power supply will not turn on since it does not have a switch to complete the circuit. Wait until you have your other components and then try it again once everything is connected. It is possible that you have a dead power supply, but it is highly unlikely., though your chances are higher since it comes with a Turbolink power supply.

Let us know how things work out.

P.S. Don't trust Havaham. He is from Dallas and all people from Dallas, TX are clueless......errrr.....wait....

We seem to be building quite the Dallas Crew around here...

If your really concerned you can get a power supply tester for like $12 to test it without a mobo.

  6. I take offense with Maestro5050's comment !!!

BTW -- if you use a semi-straightened paperclip and jumper from the GREEN lead on the P/S ATX connector to any BLACK lead on the P/S ATX connector, the P/S will turn on as it is the same as having the mobo power connector affixed and swirched on. just use the back power switch on the P/S to turn on and off.

I do it all the time to test P/S and potential dead mobo's.

Yes, I've done that too. Do a search on google, I was able to find a very nice ATX power supply diagram. I almost returned my brand new case before I figured this one out....

  8. I'll try the test but does it have any electrocution risk??

Ever stick a fork in a wall outlet? j/k

Nah its pretty low risk. There is always a remote chance of something happening, but in this case all you are doing is putting the paperclip in place to simulate the switch I mentioned earlier. It's pretty simple to do.

If you have doubts about doing it, just wait till the rest of your equipment arrives and test it then. Or you can try the power supply tester that Flaystus (another clueless Dallas person) mentioned, which virtually does the same thing, but is designed specifically for the task.

    /bows down before Flaystus

  10. Ok I'm trying it with fans and stuff with this guide: http://www.dvhardware.net/articles5.html

BTW, got my mobo, more fans, cpu, AS, RAM via FedEx. Still need drives, video card...

  11. OK, i tried it, the PSU is alive!!

The fans work, but, only 3 of the 6 front blue LED lights are working. I'm fairly vertain i conneced all the wires that looked like power wires. I f anyone else has an x-dreamer ii, do you know how to fix this? It's only one side, the left one. The right side lights are all working.

I'm glad to hear that the PSU is working, I figured it would be ok.

As far as the lighting on your case, I'd just double check your connections and/or look in the manual to make sure you are plugging the wires into the proper place. I've never worked with that case, so I can't give you any specifics about it.

  13. It didn't come with a manual - bad for a 1st time builder like me....

  14. Time to purchase the most useful tool you'll ever use, a Volt/Ohm meter. You can pick a usable one up for under $20. The power supply puts out multipule voltages and its possible the diode for the 12v that supplies the hard disks and roms has blown. I've had that happen before. All the lights use the 3v supply so they could work without the HD spinning up.
