  1. Recieve this unit for christmas. It's a DVHS with TBC and 3DNR. True playback of SVHS, and SVHS ET.

My question, I have figured out how to transfer DVHS recordings to my computer using a program called DVHSTool and the iLink port on the JVC (it's not a true DV out, so it transfer's in MPEG2 TS, not DV).

I want to know if there is a way to use this unit as a on the fly MPEG encoder for VHS tapes and passthru the video to my computer for editing. I can hookup a VCR direct to it and record to DVHS then transfer, but I don't see how this is any different than just bypassing the record phase. The manual is of no help whatsoever.

Thank you in advance any help.

Only way to find out is to test. Post your results too. I'm interested in hearing more.

  3. EDIT: actually can only pull file from DVHS Tapes, not from VHS tapes.

I have successfully pulled a .TS file from the DVHS player to my HD using DVHSTool, a small 10 min. clip. I then open HDTVtoMPEG2 and click the file to open only to have the program immediately crash.

Time to test with a DVHS rip to see if this is a windows problem, a codec problem (in the original rip with DVHSTool) or a user error (most likely).

    Will keep updated.

EDIT: I might need a program that comes bundled with a jvc camcorder called Pixela HD Capture Utility 1.0 but i can't find it via my normal means.
