I bought a Sony DRX-500UL a year ago, when the price was still high.
It has firmware version 1.0E.
I have been using it without problems.
My question is: Should I upgrade to firmware version 2.0G, or just leave well enough alone?

Is there anything you hope to acomplish by doing this?

I guess part of the reason I'm asking is I don't know how beneficial it will be or what the risks are.
On the Sony site they say:
- Allows your Dual RW drive to record at 4X on 4X compatible DVD-/+R media.
- Improves reading and writing performance and reliability.
- Reduces vibration noise for the discs with unbalance or eccentricity.
I was hoping the experts here (or at least the more experienced) could tell me if it was worth it or not. -
I am currently using firmware version 2.0E and am able to burn 4x media at 4x. Of course I was only able to burn at 2x before the upgrade.
Good luck,

I would suggest you update up to 2.0f but not the 2.0g which seems a bit buggy! You have a very old firmware right now that surely limits the speed you can burn at and compatibilty with many DVD discs.
