  1. Why can I watch X-Vid movies perfectly in VirtualDub, but when it comes to Windows Media Player and AVI Preview you can barely see anything except for a green screen most of the time.

    You probably have a very old XviD codec installed. VDUB isn't using it to preview, but WMP is. Installing the latest XviD codec is one solution. Another is to use the 4cc changer and change the headers to divx/divx, which usually works.

    1. Where would the latest codec be developed? Would the codecs contained in FFDShow not be considered as the latest version then?

    2. If changing the fourcc headers to divx/divx doesn't work, any other solutions?

  4. Try to play the file in PowerDVD or some other player program. Windows Media Player has many problems and you may have just found one of them. The more you mess around with video files the less you will rely on Windows Media Player to play them. Guaranteed!
