What is divx and xvid codec?

Ok i have this problem. First of all, what really is Divx? What is Xvid Codec? and what is the difference
between them? i tried watching movies online and i had problem with these. Even though i installed it,
i couldnt watch the video. One of the movies that i wanted to watch is this : http://www.letmewatchthis.com/external.php?title=Dune&url=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5kaXZ4bW92aWVz...com&loggedin=0

and when i wanted to watch it, it said i have to install the lastes version of Divx player. But when i click on it, it a window
pops up asking to run, save or close the file. i choose save and then when its installing, at 95% it stops because my
anit malware program called "malware bytes" identifies spyware or adware files and so i remove them and close it.

What should i do? also if i have Divx installed, can i watch movies by surfing the web or do i have to download it on
my computer? and can i watch movies which are not Divx on the Divx player or is it only Divx movies that i can
watch on it? i am so confused please someone help!

Divx is a company that makes a commerical MPEG 4 part 2 codec (aka Divx, Xvid), an MPEG 2 part 10 codec (aka h.264, AVC), a player for those videos, and a conversion program for those videos. Xvid is an open source implementation of the MPEG 4 part 2 specification.

Apparently MalwareBytes has decided the player/codecs from that site are malware and won't let you install them. If I was you I'd download the software from Divx.com's web site. If you still can't play those video you should assume letmewatchthis.com is indeed a honeypot for malware.

thanks i think you are right that the website i wanted the movie from actually has malware and is trying to trick me
because even after i download the divx from the official website, i still cant watch the movie.
