  1. Right now I capture on my Sony VAIO through firewire in AVI, I basically take the video and want to burn to DVD. I convert using TMPGenc and then burn with NERO. My question is, is there a way to just capture in MPG2 and burn directly to DVD?

  2. There are solutions that will do this but quality usually suffers as a result. I think Ulead DVD Workshop does this, probably others too.

I have been using DVD Workshop 1.3 to capture directly to MPEG2

    BUT

As other people have noted, the quality is not great

    AND

Lately I have been having field order problems. Even though I use DVD WS to capture and create the DVD files, the resultant DVD shows flicker during motion.

I have also had this problem when DVD WS reencoded a file produced by my analog capture card.

I'm no pro, but I'm not dumb as a stone either. I can't figure out where to change the setting(s), which obviously, I probably messed up in the first place.

BTW, although DVD WS captures DV on-the-fly, there is still some post-processing ("flushing the transcode buffer" or something like that). I can live with that as it is still much faster than a separate encoding, and you don't have to keep track of huge avi files.

DVD Workshop is expensive but I got the SE version by buying the ADS Pyro ProDVD firewire card...
