lite-on 811s firmware problems

Hi I have a lite-on ldw 811s dvd writer. I recently updated the firmware from the official website and now the drive will not read any cds or dvds. Windows still recognizes the drive but no matter what disc you put in it won't recognize it. I have e-mailed lite-on and am awaiting their reply - but I was just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience and knows what to do.

Any help would be much appreciated.

i had some thing like that happen to me too, strange. it read dvds at first, but when i had to restart it, it didnt read anything anymore even commercial dvds. does the drive sound like it keeps trying to read the disc, but cant?

I had that with a pioneer 104. Try setting the IDE to PIO only. Worked for me.

What did you do about the drive? Were you using a lite-on ldw 811s too? I have sent an e-mail to lite-on but so far they havent got back in touch with me! Does anyone have any advise?

yes i had an 811 too. i bought it online so i sent it back RMA and got a plextor 708. i would send it back and try another 811 to give it another try. lata.
