  1. Hi everyone.

In my recent discussion on another thread with vitualis he suggested that probably only some philips dvd players support true VCD chapters. That is a chaptermarks created without the PBC.

What I wanted to ask in this thread is if you guys who own a philips dvd player can test a VCD created with VCE Easy that has chapters without interactivity (Uncheck the option for PBC).

So far I have ran into these units that are capable of this:

Philips DVD 951 (currently own, I think firmware version does not matter)
Philips DVDR 75 (recorder unit, 500 bucks)
Philips DVD 711 (thanks much mastersmurfie for the info)

    EDIT EDIT EDIT:

    Actually I ran the other day into these two non-philips units that are capable of this;

    KOSS KS3102
    KOSS KS2503

I also ran into a unit that does not support this. Instead VCD with PBC has to be created then the unit will recognize it as VCD 2.0

The Philips units that are not capable of recognizing true VCD chapters:

Philips DVD 726 (nonetheless great player).

Would anyone like to contribute more?

    thanks ahead Dink.

hopefully this is helpful in your research...I have a Philips DVD711 (about 3 years old) and had the very first VCD that I created (before I bought my DVD burner) laying around. Just to test for this thread, I ripped the MPG file from the VCD, and created a "new" VCD 2.0 without PBC, but with chaptermarks (with VCDEasy). The VCD played great, and I was able to navigate through the chapters with both the (I guess you call them) "next" and "previous" buttons, as well as the number pad.

Just a FYI...this is the first DVD player that I ever bought, and I couldn't be happier. I just hope it lasts...

BTW...I am in NTSC land...don't know if this makes a difference or not...

  3. Thanks so much man.

I am not as lucky as you are, my DVD 951 died but it's still capable of seeing CD-Rs (hopefully THAT will last).

    *sigh*
