  1. I just finished my first DivX encoding using FairUse. everything seemed to go smoothly until the very end. it never wrote a final AVI evidently. I ended up with a video stream and an audio stream I had to mux together using AVIMux. the result seems to work fine in all players but the actual DivX player. what I'm wondering is what I did wrong that caused it not to mux the files together and what could cause the DivX player to fail to play it. On the latter I'm thinking it may be because FairUse uses its own modified DivX codecs.

I had the same thing happen. But I found this piece of the FAQ on the FairUse Homepage

Q: FairUse produced a video file and a MP3 audio file, but there is no final movie ?
A: If you used XviD, you need to install the XviD codec for FairUse to be able to mux the video and the audio files together.

Once I installed the Codec, everything was fine. Nice little program. When Im in the mood for DIVX, this is what I get out...

  3. yeah I read that too. problem is I was using DivX not Xvid, and I have both codecs installed anyway. only thing I can think if maybe I need an older version of the codec since I've got the DivX5.1.1 and it encodes with a version 4 codec. either that or I need to full version of the codec instead of the free version. of course it may be completely unrelated to either.

    Hmmm...
When I installed the Fair Use .33 I didnt have any divx installed and it ran fine. Have you tried installing the latest Xvid codec and then re-encoding to see if thats the problem. I remember the first time I encoded I couldnt hear sound until I installed the codec, even though FU encoded the thing without a hitch. I think you might be right about the divx version though.

  5. I had the newest Xvid codec installed before encoding anyway but I'll try it again when I have the chance. I don't have 6 hours to devote to it just now. It came out fine though using AVIMux except for not playing in the Divx player itself.

I'm just now getting into Fairuse. I just started a thread about getting a jerky picture. As soon as I can get this fixed I will try it on my Standalone Divx player and see if it works.

  7. I played the finished product with Xvid codec on my Divx player. It played fine. The only thing was I saw quite a bit of pixelation. I may try my hands at GordianKnot.

  8. i just got the newest version and may give it a shot soon. I'm also thinking of switching to gordon knot. Fair Use seems to always output a file a good bit larger than target size for me and never encoded the audio to MP3 as specified in past versions but hopefully that's fixed now.
