  1. I had a Sony DW-U10A but it stopped working (writing DVD's) so I sent it back to the company I purchused it from. They replaced it with a DW-U14W drive. Prior to the U10A taking a crap, I created about 10 home video DVD's using FUJIFILM 2X +R DVD's. As a test I would, I would first write to a FUJIFILM +RW disc to make sure I was satisfied with the my final editing. Each one came out perfit.

After I got the U14A, I tried writing to one of the FUJIFILM +RW disc's and noticed some pixulation and clicking/popping sounds in the audio. I had a Maxell 2.4 +RW disk so I tried writing to that and everything was fine.

Yesterday I went to create a new video and wrote it to a Memorex 4X +R disc and noticed that I once again got a little pixulation and screen flutter along with some of the clicking/popping sound in the audio.

Has anyone else run into this problem with the Sony DW-U14A? Does anyone know what would be causing video pixulation and audio clicking/popping sounds? Is it the drive or the media? I'm going to try to create that same video on the Maxell 2.4 +RW disk to see if it is a media problem.

  2. Update- I Tried writing the same video to a Maxell 2.4X +RW disc and it works fine. No pixulation or pops in the audio. Must be the Memorex 4X +R disc's.

What brand of DVD 4X +/- R disc's have people been having trouble with when using the Sony DW-U14A writer? What brand is everyone having the best luck with?

  4. Update - I did the firmware update to make it a 510A, then upgraded the firmware to 1.0d. Looks like this did the trick. I was able to record to the FUJIFILM +RW disc with no problems and create the DVD on the Memorex 4X +R.

Maybe there is something to the firmware upgrade.

  5. Hello

I have been trying to find someone who has completed this upgrade.

Could you please let me know if this was a move worth making. Also what process did you follow and did you have to take any precautions.

I would like to perform the upgrade but want to know if it is worth the risk.

    Your advice would be welcome?
