Here is the Message Nero 6 gives me:
Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal DVD, but still fits onto a DVD-9 disc. As DVD-9 media are not yet supported, you will only be able to write this project to a folder.
    4.72 gig capacity

I am encoding the MPEG2 with TMPGEnc Plus. The file is less that 3 gig. I have tried encoding the files at CBR at a lower bit rate and end up with the exact message and capacity of the Nero project (4.72 gig). I change the source and the error stays the same.

Nero does offer to change the bitrate but that is not going to happen.

Another issue I have is if I capture avi with Nero 6 and edit it in Virtual dub, the size goes form 25 gig to 84 gig for aproximately 60 minutes of capture.

Can someone help finish nailing me to the cross here? I am having trouble getting my other hand nailed up.

I just checked a file I have that is 5Gig and when it goes into Nero with LPCM audio it goes to 10 Gig with AC# Dolby it drops to 8 Gig at Best settings

If you don't want Nero to reduce it create it oin a HD Folder and use one of the shrink programs to bring it to one disc.

Nero will change it to what fits or you could use custom to maximize it. But it sounds like you don't want to use nero.

  3. Leo-

I use tmpeg as well but I use the Kwag template to get file sizes real small ( with ac3 ). With this I can fit a DVD-9 to DVD-5 ( movie only ) no problemn and the quality remains high. I use the CQ mode and not CBR, CQ of around 78 or so with max bitrate of 5200. I then author in TMPEGEnc Author as I do not care for Nero in temrs of authoring or burnung DVD's. For the burn I use Stomp Record Now Max v 4.5 on my A04 burner.

I just purchased TMPGEnc Authoring program. I believe my mistakes are in the resolution of the captured file. I have a frameserve to TMPGEnc Plus going on right now but it may be mis matched also.

I want to put 70 minutes or so of Svhs tape to a DVD.
I don't mind using all of the 4.3 gig for the single tape.

I may need to start over with the capture. I used Nero to capture AVI HUFFYuv and ended up with a 24 gig file.
I used Virtual Dub to seperate the audio where I did some noise reduction in Audicity.
After saving the file back as AVI it is 84 gig in size. ? ?
Now I endoced to MPG2 a variety of ways but ended up with the error using Nero.
Using TMPGEnc DVD author I get errors trying to open the MPG file including wrong size (630 x 467) or non standard . . . I know I wanted to add black to make up the difference but it didn't happen? (Just what menue command does this?)

I have read through a number of tutorials and am getting closer to getting setup to capture/edit/author. At least now I have all the tools.

I will start a new post when I get myself reorganized. I don't retain information like I did in my youth so bear with me.
