Finally picked up some cheap samples of this elusive Fotis DVD-R media. Despite some stickers calling it Fotis, It's actually called VAKOSS 4x on the branded top. Here's the media ID: NANYA-JC001. Anyone have any clue who makes these? If I were to hazard a guess, It's CMC.

Also picked up some media called "GENERIC".(labeled on case) They're unbranded silver tops. I asked who made them and the guy said they're labeled Generic. When I used DVDinfopro, they turned out to be LONGTEN 001. I guess they have to get rid of the crap Longtens somehow. I'll be returning those.

I'm at a loss for words.

I want to make analogy, but I need a good comparison. Pick any type product and reply with a post. I'll use it as the example of the point I want to make.

    FYI: NANYA is PRINCO.

And here I thought I was making an analogy The CMC reference. But,I admit I wasn't sure.

It explains why the NANYA-JC001 media is so cheap. Thanks.

  5. Brand Name: Fotis/ Made by Prodisc

They seem to be very cheap in canada, about 52 buck for 50 in a place i found.
I've tried about 10 of them.. they all seem to be ok..
The movie does NOT breakup or pixilate near the end or anything..

How are the disc going for you?

    I might buy more...

  6. I have to stick up for Nan-ya - I certainly wouldn't equate them to Princo manufactured discs. I have used a sizable quantity of Nan-ya DVD-R's (in fact, I still do use them) and they have never given me any problems even when burning as close to the edge as I can.

I can not say the same for Princo's, which have been extremely variable in my application. YMMV, but I'll vouch for the Nan-ya any day until such time that I buy a naff spindle at least.

My Fotis 1x are made by Optodisc. That's what media code I get when I use DVDinfopro. Both the Nanya discs and especially the Fotis/Optdiscs haven't given me any problems thus far. I did get playback issues on a couple of branded Optodiscs a few months back.
