  1. Me stupid. Me need lots of help. Deaf too. Talk loud. Old, old lady.

Me take video and record on my tv dvd recorder (DVD-R). Put in computer showed many files.
Why it do that? Don't answer. My brain too small to understand.

I need to put on web site. People can view this in avi.

I scratch my head, find your website, look at the forum. Read, read, read.
Scratch head some more. Download software. Try to convert. Wait 24 hours for membership to go through. Scratch head again. Checked for lice. None, just stupid.

    Files:
    Video_ts.bup
    "_ts.ifo
    "_ts.vob
    VTS_01_0.bup
    " " ".ifo
    VTS_01.1.vob
    VTS_01.2.vob

Ok. I download DVD2avi (also try dvdtoavi - get nowhere)
Take long time, I get even more senile waiting. Scratch head.

I take VTS_01.1.vob and add VTS_01.2.vob and then press ok.
Ask for save as AVI. Then go home cause it take so long.
Come back next day. Older, walking slower, check what I got.
NO SOUND. Check ears, ok. I shout. Sorry. Frustrated. Great movie, but no sound.
I read, read, read, but too stupid too get what you all mean. Just scratch head.
    Feels good. No lice.

Question: why did the program break up the save into 2 files:
avi and .ac3? I press avi file and it play, but no sound.

What this stupid lady do wrong? How can stupid lady correct this.

Please when answer go slow. Me too stupid, but need help. I showed you steps I took and what I have.
What files (be specific) to I take, add, delete, move and what program do I use and how?

Please don't leave me here scratching head.

Be nice, this old lady just came back from date with old man. Imagine, I find someone my age who still want to party.

For DVD to Avi conversion you might want to try one of these guides.

  3. Oh Zippy you so very clever. Thank you for trying to help this old lady.

I'm still stuck. I get sound if I play the dvd-r on a player, but I don't get sound when
    1) I preview the video in Dvd2avi program prior to conversion (as per the page you sent me to with on of your links)
    2) After I convert from DVD2avi.

So how come I have sound, but got no sound? Oh head hurting so much.
The other links didn't help, cause this aint a sync problem. Sync means you have 2 or more things to even out, me I only got picture, no sound.

    Aiyeee! Please help.

I'll help but first you should tell me what you want as the final result .
The reason I ask is that "AVI" isnt specific enough.
Do you just want to play the movie on your computer ?
Or do something else later ?

Your sound is in the AC3 file. Try what Poppa_M said .

  7. My end result is to have the movie as a streaming video on our website for people to view and listen to.

What I don't understand is this:

At what point do I use the software that you recommended? Notice that I've got a dvd that has the vob files set up. Are you saying to use this new software now that I did the dvd2avi conversion or start at the beginning? Thanks.

  8. I just read the Doom tutorial and if my stupid brain is understanding this, the audio would not be listened to easily by people online viewing the video because they may not have the ac3 compatable hardware.

This has left me further befuddled. What do I do to get a dvd in mov where it can be played (viewed and listened to) by people using either Real One Player or Quick Time?

Surely you don't expect to put a whole movie on a website ?
Most people don't have the bandwidth for that.

I don't know much about the best way here. I have heard...

Mpeg 1 audio and video would be highly compatible.
    TMPGenc will do that.

WMV9 is claimed to be highly compressed and probably compatible
It's MPEG4 . I think there is a free program to make that. Not sure

Dunno how to make MOV or Real. Don't really care either

  10. Yes we do plan on puttin the whole movie up. Its 15 minutes and we thought we would have a streaming video. Me too stupid to get what the problem is.

Do you really talk like that?

I had the same problem, try demux the audio and video. I read somewhere that some DVDs have some kind of protection with the audio (I think doo9 has an article on that). I ended up using video studio from ulead to do the conversion.

  12. Thanks. Why would the DVD do that if I cut the DVD myself from our Video? (The video was cut from our footage.)

I guess tomorrow I'll have to try every which way but up to see what happens cause my boss is breathing down my neck to get this going before he leaves on vacation this Friday. Woe is me if I don't get it.

  16. Hmmm.

I just spent the whole day scratching my head wondering what is going on.

Virtuladobmod said I don't have any audio files!

yet, the dvd I made from the video works perfectly when I play it in a dvd player, but since I'm looking to make an avi or mov and put it on a web page I'm stuck.

I've lost count of all the software programs I've downloaded. I printed out the walk-thru's, some of them great and others vague.

Tempgenc doesn't like my computer and said its not compatible. So using that software was a bust.

I just don't know what else to do at this point.

how are you trying to convert the vob files, directly from the DVD? If you have them on your hard drive, you should be able to play them directly with a DVD player program, check that.

Also u can use smartrippert to copy the files to your Hard drive. I'm not sure if you can make a direct copy from the DVD.

Also try to make your posting as clear as possible, if you want to curse yourself, do it, but it's tedios to read a long post.

  18. Gee I did something right! I did copy the dvd to the hard drive and have been using those files when I try to do something with it. *sigh* No such luck.

Any other helpful suggestions would be appreciated. I just don't get why its not able to play the sound. Aieeeee.

This will render your AVI to a Real Media file
    http://forms.real.com/rnforms/products/tools/producerbasic/

You can also use Vegas 4.0 to render Real Media or MOV, but it's Trialware

try smartripper to copy those files to your hard drive! and then use virtualdub.

Once you copy your files with that program, try to open them with your DVD player software, you should be able to see and hear it!!!, or try to play them with virtualdubmod, go to File->preview VBR!

  21. Ok, I'll try that tomorrow. I'll delete the files I already have and start again. Geesh, I'm growing old just doing this all day.

  22. Ok I'm in work, and I opened my player and played the copied to hard disk video. That's never been a problem. It's when I convert it to avi that it loses the sound.

Am I missing something here? Why would I have to use smartripper to copy the files from my dvd to hard drive if I'm not having a problem playing the HD copied files on a player prior to converting to avi?

I'd go ahead and use Smart, I downloaded it, but there are no walkthrus that help. It seems Smart is for commercial DVD's, my DVD is from my home video that I copied to my DVD-R and want to show online.

    Please help.

  23. Oh my it works!!!!! I got sound!! I did a happy dance around the office, they think this old lady really lost it now.

Here's how it had to be done (for anyone else).

Use dvd2avi. Once you have the avi and ac3 files then get AVIMux Gui which will bring the two together.

thanks for everyone who helped me get through this. What a bunch of smart people.
