  1. I have a working .avi made in Premier 6.0. I have even re-made it 4 times, all of them play flawlessly - no dropped frames.

If I try to make a DVD using DVDit, it crashes at the very end before it starts to burn.

If I use Studio 7 to convert it, it stops in the last 10 seconds and will not continue.

If I convert it in CUCUsoft, the audio goes out of sync.

I have spent a fortune in software, but nothing works. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks

    Carrie

  2. Convert it to DVD compliant mpeg-2 using TmpGenc. It has a 15 day trial for mpeg-2 encoding. preview the mpeg in a software DVD player such as PowerDVD. If this is fine, you can author it to DVD (not burn) using Ifoedit (which is free) and burn with Nero. Try using a DVDRw to test (if your DVD player reads them). If this works you can splash out on a better authoring program. TmpGenc DVD author is popular and cheape esp if bought at the same time as the encoder. Other popular ones are DVD-Lab and Ulead DVD workshop.

  3. Thanks for the advice. I will try it.

So are you saying DVDit, Studio 7 and CUCsoft are not good programs to use?

  4. I did as you said but I am a little confused. I authored the DVD in INFOEDIT but now what. Did it make files somewhere? It doesn't give any clues as to what it did.

Is there a way I burn them with Nero? Or can I use DVDit?

    Thanks again

I have necer used Studio 7 or CUCsoft so can't comment on those. DVDit (at least older versions, not sure about the most recent) only supported uncompressed audio, leaving less room for video. Fine if you want only an hour or less per DVD, but a problem for video quality otherwise.

Yes, it should have craeted a VIDEO_TS folder containing some large *.VOB files and smaller *.BUP and *.IFO files. These can be tested in PowerDVD or WinDVD and if OK, burnt to disk with Nero or whatever you prefer. There are several guides on authoring and burning that you may want to check.

I use Nero for burning so if that is what you have but are not sure what to do I may be able to help. If you have a different burning program I am sure someone else will be able to offer advice.

Actually, it should have put the files somewhere on your computer. If you look at the bottom of the box you used to author your files, you will see the path where it put your VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. If you look inside these folders you will find the files you need to make your DVD.

Take all the files from the VIDEO_TS files and put them in the NERO VIDEO_TS folder and burn them.
    Hello.

  7. There are VTS files and VIDEO_TS files in the root of my c drive. Do all of those go in the VIDEO_TS directory? Any in the AUDIO_TS directory in nero?

    Thanks! I am getting close!!!

The AUDIO_TS it created should be empty

It is reserved for DVD-AUDIO files
(a kind of DVD that has no MAJOR VIDEO...only AUDIO files)

Together with the VIDEO_TS folder these two folders placed on a DVD surface make up the STRUCTURE called DVD (and with nero-an empty AUDIO_TS is already there if you use DVD VIDEO mode to burn!)

I would suggest a more user friendly program than IFO edit for my first authoring experience

    DVD LAB
TMPGAuthor and If you can afford it
    DVD ARCHITECT
    are my best choices

STAY AWAY FROM OVERLY USER_FRIENDLY "consumer-ware" like
Pinnacle, Ulead and My DVD type products

Do each of you have you own burner or do you share one DUAL? :-)

  10. The VIDEO_TS files are only 6k, and the VTS files are 1 gig'ish. Seems like I need to use all of the files, not just the VIDEO_TS files. Maybe I am wrong...

  12. SUCCESS.

    Bugster, great advice.

New question. In infoedit, how do I write the text file that will define chapters? Exactly what format?

    Thanks!!!

Glad you have been successful. As to chapters, I suggest now is the time you start to think about another authoring tool. DVD-Lab is powerful and great value for money but has a steep (ish) learning curve. TmpGenc DVD author is also great value for money, slightly less flexible but somewhat easier for the beginner. Both have great support from the users here and both have donwloadable free trials.

The chapter stuff in Ifoedit was designed for using the output of chapter extraction from a commercial DVD. I don't know how easy it is to create the files manually. Probably quite difficult. Besides, you still can't do any menus with Ifodeit.

  14. OK, gotcha.

I don't need menus for this project, just chapters, but even that is not necessary.

Thanks again, you all have been a great help. I am sure we will be back soon.
