I'm getting pixel lines on my video files regardless of whether I'm
encoding or ripping from original dvd's. Avi files converted with either
tmpeg or main concept put the lines on the converted file. I have
attached a snapshot of the problem. I have checked
and replaced cables, replaced the power supply and I'm ready to throw
the computer out the window. The problem occures in the same spot
every time I reencode the file.

Looks like you are getting a drop out in that spot, how long does that appear for?Does it show when you play your dvd on your dvdrom?Check for any scratches or spots on the disc. Also does it appear on all your discs?Might be the dvd device is getting flakey, try another dvd-rom/-/+r.

The line would appear for less than a second. I have a dvd rom and a dvd
burner and they both have the same problem. And the problem then
transfers on to the burnt dvd and hence you can see it on the standalone
dvd player. The origin dvd's don't have any scratches on them. The
problem occures when converting avi to mpeg2 so I'm suspecting either a
cpu problem or motherboard problem.Life Happens, go with the flow
