    Mpeg1 max. bitrate = 1,500K/bits?
I should have a 3000K/bits mpeg1 file when i captured but when playback with PowerDVD, the information shows that only 1500K/bits. But somehow other software like TMPGEnc shows that the bitrate is 3000K/bits.
Is that mean the other half 1500K/bits make not contribution to the video quality???

I can't find any software that can read my video file and tell me the bitrate. Any recommendation?

  2. I don't know what the spec says for mpeg-1 but the max bitrate is definatley above 3000. I guess PowerDVD is displaying some incorrect info. Try Bitrateviewer to see the actual bitrate of a video.

  3. If you are talking about a strict specification VCD, then the bitrate is a constant 1500. Any other bitrate is a non-standard VCD. Power DVD, is probably only reporting it as 1500 because it thinks that is what it should be.

If the bitrate is not a constant 1500, then it is something else other than a VCD.

I'm guessing those were just typo's but the max bitrate for VCD is 1150kbits, not 1500kbits. As bugster said, just ignore PowerDVD. Its a software player, not a bitrate calculator. BitrateViewer is probably the best free tool for this. In any case, just because PowerDVD incorrectly estimates the bitrate as being lower that doesn't mean the quality of playback in that player will be any less.

I forget the actual max bitrate for mpeg1 but its huge. Well more than any hardware or software DVD player could handle.

    Wrong, see adams post.

Actuallym the original poster, karhooi, never mentioned VCD, just Mpeg-1.
