  2. OMG did u bother looking on the back of your DVD player for this little switch? the three options are PAL/NTSC/AUTO
just have a look! when i first bought my DVD player, the default setting was NTSC so a pal VCD came out black and white, so i just moved the switch to PAL and viola. it worked. you dont have to reencode or any of that crap.

  4. hmm, thats kind of crap. if you followed the manual and you still can watch it in colour then you should return it, anyway, phillips is hopeless. i have a pioneer, there is a 3 option switch on the back, pal/ntsc/auto.

  5. Hi guys,
NTSC and PAL are TV-standards, it's the way the TV- signal is converted into colours and this depends on the geographical location. If you play an NTSC-VCD on a PAL-TV (or v.v.) you only get b/w. The switch on the back of the DVD-player (and yes, there should be one on the Philips) only allows you to use the player on both NTSC and PAL TV's.
Yeshi : re-encoding to NTSC is the only option.
