  1. I've got a Pioneer A06 and using Tmpgenc DVD Author to burn the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS files with 4x Media I am only getting a 2x Burn ! - The Max Speed within DVD Author is grayed out..... Currently set at MAX!
Does anyone know of a solution to this ?
    The DVD-R disc's I'm using are ataWrite RED V2 4x

I've tried using Nero 5.... Something.... And All I get is an error telling me the disc is not writable ! - I dont know what all thats about....

But to be honest I'd prefer to use DVD Author anyway.

    Many Thanks.

The DVD discs you are using are writable only once (DVD-R). Once you burn something, there's no way you can modify the disc. That is the reason why Nero said that the disc was not writable because you must have tried to make Nero use the same disc you had just burnt.

I checked the specs of your Pioneer burner and your DataWrite discs and everything should work at 4x.

Maybe there is a bug or a limitation in TMPGEnc DVD Author in this version and it will be corrected in a future version.

Or maybe there is another hardware limitation in your computer for some reason. I don't know enough about this to even know if this is possible.

Maybe somebody else will give you a better answer.

  3. Nero is buggy depending on the version.
I also use and preffer Tmpgenc DVD author over Nero. My burner is a 2x and tmpgencs built in burner always writes my ritek G03 printable disks at 2x as it should. Yesterday I needed a raw mpeg2 file to bring with me so I used Nero to burn a data DVD, it burned at 1X! Nero showed burning at 2x and the final summery of the burn stated it was burned at 2x but the fact is 1hr is 1x, NOT 2x! Nero is buggy! Maybe newer versions fixed that? I still have 5 something, I think it was the last one before ver 6 maybe.

Sorry, can't help with the 4X as my burner is only 2x.

  5. Gildas : I appreciate the disc'c are write - once...... But, the point is... even after offering the disc to Nero and the software reporting the Media is not blank..... I can still give the very same DVDR to DVD AUTHOR and it burns fine..... albeit 2X.

Thanks for your input all the same

  6. Just a dumb thought, happened to me before though.

For nero, you have gone to the top drop down menu and chose your DVD burner there (if you also have a CD burner installed).

I have had a problem with nero being last used to burn a CD on the CD-burner, then when I want to burn a DVD Nero opens to the CD-burner. Of course I changed that to DVD on the left side (where it shows the pictures of disks). But then when I went to burn, Nero still tried to access the CD-burner for some reason. SO I actually have to go to the top drop down menu and also choose to use the DVD-burner there. Maybe something like select burner, not sure the title and I'm not at that system now.

SO I am thinking, I can burn either CD or DVD with my DVD-burner, The settings on the left side may only be to choose what type disk you want to create, not what burner. You still have to Choose at the top rather it is the DVD burner, or the CD burner you plan to use.

In any case, what happened to me was Nero reads the CD-burner. Either I get no disk error if the drive is empty, or I get a error like disk full, not writeable ect... if I have a comercail or already written disk in the drive.

If you have more than one drive, check that
If not, well maybe it helps some-one else with a similar problem.

Far as 4x/2x in Tmpgenc dvd author, don't know, but maybe send them an e-mail and ask directly if the program even supports 4x burns? I think it would, but maybe not? SO ask them and post back to let us know what they say

Also I never heard of "DataWrite RED V2 4x" disks myself, are those a good major brand or a cheap disk of questionable quality? Have you ever written one at 4x in your drive? Maybe the drive sees the disk as only a 2x disk? Maybe try another brand like Ritek G04 from a reliable vender like rima.com since about everyone seems to have good results with riteks. Just a thought. Some drives are picky about speeds and disks.

I'll bet that its a problem with your media. I have been using TMPGEnc DVD Author to burn Ritek G04 at 4x with no problems unless I try to burn near the disc's limit, in which case I create an ISO and then burn with DVD Decrypter.

I have had quite a few problems burning DVDs with Nero. Now I only use it to burn CDs (audio or SVCD).
