BOUGHT SOME PRINCO'S THAT ARE 4X.
TRIED BURNING WITH NERO AND OTHER
BURNING SOFTWARE. NO LUCK, KEEP GETTING
ERRORS, SECTOR, OR INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

THING IS A BUDDY OF MINE HAS THE SAME BURNER, AND
SAME MEDIA. HE HAS HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THEM.
WE BOTH BOUGHT OUR NEC FROM THE SAME PLACE AT THE
SAME TIME. SO THE BURNER IS'NT A PROBLEM.
CAN UPDATING THE FIRMWARE HELP? -
What firmware version do you currently have?
PS. Check your Caps Lock button, it seems to be stuck.

That did the trick. Updated firmware, now
it's burning. Only problem, is media is sold as
4x speed. But it's burning at 2.1x. Anybody know
which media, at a good price, burns true 4x? -
always buy RITEK dvd-r disks they cost abit more but are the best
you will never get any coasters with those... -
??/ keep away from those disks they are crap ??? Princo!
Wake up people, it depends if your firmware has been tuned to a particular
brand of "Disc".
Works everytime for me with an LG 4040B, over 50 burns with no problems.

princo are ok for backing up computer files, but for dvd movies to play on home dvd players princo are not very good, they stick - stop playing near the end of most movies. but still play on computer there just not very good for home dvd players.

I've been using Verbatim Datalife +R disks in my NEC 1300a. These are made in Singapore by Mitsubishi Chemicals and work very well. Good burns all the way to the edge when backing up dvd's.
Using Herrie's 107 v3 firmware. -

I've burned well over 50 Princo 1x on my Pioneer 105 Firm 1.33. I've had 2 coasters. Both were from user error when I was starting out. Firmware is the bone of contention. Keep it updated and chances are you're going to have far fewer problems. All my Princos work after 8 months too. Keep them stored properly at room temperature, and away from direct sunlight. -

using princo 1x whiteface for dvd video with nec1300a. burns at 2x. HAVE not done a firmware upgrade. over 100 done. no problems
same media in pioneer 105 with updated firmware still burns at 1x only[/quote] -
My experience is that those 4x princo discs work great when burnt at 2x. 4x generates all sorts of read errors.
Running original 1.07 firmware, tried 1.08, no difference. Im gonna try Herrie's hacked 1.07 v3 also.
