  2. Are you positive that you have all your previous codecs installed from before the reload?

It's your source files that are the problem, It's not TMPGEnc!

  5. You can try Main Concept, Canopus Procoder, or bbMPEG. All will convert avi to DVD. bbMPEG is freeware. The other two will cost you.

I had been using TMPGE for several months and then all of the sudden I started getting errors when converting AVIs. I tried all the suggestions posted in the guides with no luck. Finally I stumbled on this guide and my problem is solved! Now I just use SVCD2DVD to convert my AVI files to MPEG. Even though this program uses TMPGE it does something different and I don't get the errors.

    Give it a try!

  8. Vanster, not wishing to be pedantic, but you mean DVD2SVCD... which is a different thing to SVCD2DVD.

.. and yes, DVD2SVCD is a brilliant tool; much more versatile than the name suggests.

    cheers,

Oops! My bad! Yes, the tool you want is DVD2SVCD and NOT SVCD2DVD. The guide I posted is still correct, however.

Try to load your AVI into VirtualDub and then frameserve from VirtualDub to TMPGEnc.

I'm not sure why but this method will often "fix" problems with TMPGEnc in that errors you get loading an AVI directly into TMPGEnc will often go away when you frameserve to TMPGEnc from VirtualDub.

The downside is that frameserving this way will slow down your encoding speed which of course means the conversion will take a bit longer.

DVD2SVCD will do that conversion for you.

FulciLives is right though - frameserving from VirtualDub often sorts out problems with avi's.

Having said that, I can't recommend DVD2SVCD highly enough.
