I would like to be able to add a simple 5-second fade out (from normal video to black) in an AVI file, that would affect both video & audio. This is so I can add a 'graceful' transition out of scene rather than cutting directly to black. Any tips are appreciated.

as to audio any good sound editor will do. -
Thanks, Johns0.
I grabbed the plug-in per your link for the fade, and placed it in the plug-ins folder for VirtualDubMod. Can I get a hint to how I access the feature once VDM is running? -
load up the avi file and goto video/filters/add and choose fader, set your parameters and then save as or frame serve to what you need it for, remember to choose a compression if you are going to save as an avi file cause you can only use the filters in full process mode.
