  1. Hello!

Someone 100x smarter as me could write a guide about replacing subtitles correctly.

In what? With what? If DVD, then it's specific to the authoring app used (those who does subs at all!), if it's VCD, then it's no-can-do, and if it's SVCD, it might be possible, but 99.9% of the time it's no-can-do for SVCD too.

  3. I think that the best you'll get for subtitles without purchasing a pro-authoring application will be permanent subtitles, regardless of format. There are some guides here for that, but until the consumer level apps close the gap to the professional, then you will not have much option.

IfoEdit does subs quite nicely, once you get them to the correct format, so does DVDAuthor, but both these has other shortcomings (making a decent menu isn't for the faint hearted...), and are surely not "consumer level apps" (by which I mean nobrainer pointandclick stuff).

I have to agree. I went through some growing pains the other night, because the guides weren't cut and dry. I can't put my finger on it.

Avisynth, DVD2AVI, VobSub?!?! No wonder I was turned off of subtitles up until now.

The problem I think lies, that subtitles seem to fall into second place compared to video and audio related stuff.

And as I'm realizing lately, yes, you definately need higher end software.
I do have a subtitle question, but I'll start another post
