  1. My standalone player plays my SVCD movie smoothly, but after 5 seconds, I have a litlle and short stop (very short), after the movie plays smoothly and after 5 seconds it's begin again, a little short stop and always during the movie, that's continue ??? I don't know the word: it's jerk ?
It's not very annoying but I want to have a perfect smoothly movie.
I try my SVCD on another DVD player (standalone) and it's the same. I think it's when I make my SVCD with TMPGenc.
    What's the problem ?
    I want a smoothly movie

    Thanks for help

  4. May be my experience can help!

I had a "strange" problem with my DVD player XMS750, bought from Strathfield Australia: although it's supposed to be compatible with svcd, when I tryed to use any kind of variable bit rate, the sound stopped for 1 second and soon after the picture freezes; seemed that just using constant bit rate @2520 the problem didn't exist (just 2 or 3 "hiccups" in 40 minutes)

The source was a vob file through DVD2AVI, using TMPGEenc (I tried ver 12a, 12J and 2.0) with variable bit rate (like CQ) and with 16:9 aspect ratio.

With avi files from a vhs (4:3 full screen) , seemed to be better, maybe because the bit rate never falls too much.

In fact, analyzing the file bit rate, from a Vob file using VBR the rate fall down much more then using AVI source, which remain more stable.

The problem seemd to be the lower bit rate limit rather then the higher one.

Could be possible that my DVD player could not handle VBR? According to the video chip manufacturer specification, the ES4408fd is full SVCD complaint, so it must be able to read VBR files.

After a tour in a big shop, I found out that some DVD players are full compatible with SVCDs although they don't say anything in theier specifications (Philips 7xx or Lenoxx) and they are cd-rw compatible too; my case was just the opposite because my XMS750 claimed to be SVCD complaints but it was not!

So, I swapped it with a OMNI 3200, that plays SVCDs VBR (or CQ if you like) without any problem at all.

So, a plain SVCD compatibility doesn't exist after all and your dvd is behaving like my old one; the only way to sort it out is to try different dvd players with your svcd's before buying a new one.

    Cheers
