  1. Okay so I have been trying to get smooth playback with 1080p .mkv videos for a couple weeks now.
I have tried a huge range of options codecs and things of the sort.
I can play 720p perfectly with mpc-hc and coreavc with cpu usage at about 50-60%
when i try to play 1080, I end up getting 100% and it starts lagging.
When i try to play 1080p with dxva on using the cyberlink 264 decoder I end up getting alot of artifacts and funny lines happening. I've exhausted all options I can think of and am now asking for help.
I have removed all installed coded and now just have cyberlink powerdvd and mpc-hc installed.
My main question is this, do you think it is even possible to get perfect 1080p playback with the spec of my current laptop?

    hp dv7 3024ca
    windows 7
AMD athlon dual core M300 2.0ghz
    4gb ddr2 ram
    ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4200

  2. A few things to check:

Do you have CoreAVC Pro or the regular CoreAVC? The regular version is single threaded. You must have the Pro version (multithreaded) to play 1080p.

Do you have MPCHC set up for multithreaded decoding? Go to View -> Options -> Internal Filters. In the right hand pane make sure H264/AVC (ffmpeg) is enabled. Double click on it and set the Decoding Thread Number to 2. Exit and restart MPCHC for the changes to take effect.

Divx currently has the fastest multithreaded h.264 decoder. I would try that too.

  3. I have coreavc pro 2.0 and I know that everything is working for multi thread because i can see it in my task manager performance tab.
I will give the divx decoder a try when I gat a chance and let you if its any different.
    thanx for the quick response

  4. Even single threaded programs will use both cores (Windows switches back and forth between them to even out the heat distribution, but only one is running the program at any time). But that fact that you are seeing 100 percent usage indicates the decoder is probably multithreaded.

By the way, the problems you see with DXVA indicates your source is using features not supported by DXVA. Not all h.264 features are supported.

What output device are you using in MPCHC? Try System Default or Overlay Mixer.

  6. I am having that trouble with all my 1080p mkv movies. I have a couple that dont work at all with dxva and the screen is pink and green. Im assuming those ones dont support dxva. Could it be that my card just doesnt do a good job with the acceleration and thats why it looks glitchy?

I am using EVR custom as I read that that was the best for win7, but I will try the 2 suggested

  7. dxva does not work when using overlay mixer and for some reason all movies play at half size even though I have it set to normal size and keep aspect ratio.
With the divx decoder I have the same problem as with CoreAVC I end up maxing out the cpu and the movie starts to stutter

  8. You should get (or make) a known DXVA compliant 1080p video. See if you can get your system working with that. Then any 1080p videos that don't play are simply not DXVA compliant and you won't be able to play them.

  9. ok so when using mediainfo when a the container profile is 4.1 or less then it is dxva compatible right?

All of my movies are 4.1 or lower and i still have issues with them.
The few that are 5.1 wont play using dxva they are just pink and green

I wouldn't count on that. Anyone can change the profile in the header to say whatever they want. Make one yourself to be sure. Try MeGUI. It has a bunch of DXVA presets.

  11. I have a wicked desktop that has a quadcore in it. Is it possible to stream to my laptop with the desktop doing the work? My desktop can handle the 1080p no problem with coreavc, only problem is it is not anywhere near my tvs

  12. Tversity maybe -- I haven't used it so I can't say for sure. It may downscale the 1080p to 720p for faster compression and transmission. A 1080p24 stream is too much data (~75 MB/s as YV12) to send uncompressed.
