  1. My trouble is the following:

I converted 4 AVI's to MP-2 MPGs using TMPGENC Plus and authored them using TMPGENC DVD author.
Afterwards i burned them with NERO Ver 5.5.10.7 at slowest 1X speed with simulation enabled as well (yes that takes a lot of time but after mis-burning 2 you want to be sure it goes ok) unfortunatly even with those settings the DVD-R was not ok at the end:
meaning the 1st and 2nd movie played ok but the 3rd one stopped about 2/3rds through (so about the last 30 - 35 per cent of the DVD) with the DVD player endlessly searchinng for the track and the 4th does not work at all. I've already burned it before with the TMPGENC DVD authoring tools burning and with NERO at 4x Speed same result (not worse either).

Now this does not just happen on my standalone DVD player but also on my DVD burner drive and my DVD drive on the Computer both play movie 1 & 2 but not 3 & 4. Even though the directory shows all the files & NERO reported no errors whatsoever during the burning process.
Which is why i think its a burning problem not a problem with my Player or the authoring.
I am using: Intenso 4.7 GB DVD-Rs and burn them on a:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105 Firmware version: 1.21

I hope someone can help me its no fun buying expensive DVD-Rs and then not beeing able to fit more than twice the size of a CD-R on it.

    Thx a lot

I always burn my dvd files with CloneDVD, never had a coaster. Even files processed using another program such as DVD Shrink. it will tell you up front if the files are bad BEFORE it starts the burning process.

There is nothing wrong with burning with Nero so don't be swayed in that direction. Sounds like you have some inconsistant media. That can be many things, such as media that won't let you put a full 4.37 gig on a disk (princo's) and other idea's.

Best test. Go out and buy a 5 pack of a good brand, Imation, Maxell, or other name brand. They are all on sale this evening anyway (compusa has a good sale as does staples)

Try those 5 with the same files and test. If they all work, you know for SURE it is media. If the same ones do not work, then your files are bad (perhaps oversized ). Never try to OVERBURN a DVD.

    Hope this helps....

  5. Thx for all the replies. The consesus seems to be that i bought the wrong DVD-Rs. I dont think its the files since i authored them with TMPGENC DVD author.
    Currently votes are:
    - Imation, Maxell -
    - FUJI, MAXELL, TDK, RITEK

anyone else wish to add their 2 Cents on that? I'd really like to make sure to buy proper ones this time.

Make an ISO with IMG Tools , then burn the ISO with NERO. This eliminates NERO's known issues with DVD Video. Version 5.5.x has known issues. Yoou can also burn with DVDDecryptor (which is free).

  8. Gazorgan: Nope i've already tried that after reading about it in another post same result only the first 60 % of the DVD work.
Used IMG TOOLS to make an ISO which i opened with DAEMON Tools and worked just fine. But after burning it with CloneDVD i got the same result. So now i am at a point where i actually HOPE its the media cause otherwise i don't know what else to do.

Speaking of: after browsing through Amazon.de (i live in Germany) i ran a across 25 pack of Memorex DVD-R's at 25% off, which got 3 very positive reviews and since i can't find any of the Brands you guys recommended there i'd like to know whether anyone can recommend this brand or of its bad.

Get 2-3 good quality DVD-RW to make tests when you're not sure of a problem. That way you can keep trying until you find the problem while not wasting any DVD-R.
