I have the DRX 500 ULX. It has been great for me. I have had no problems using it through windows XP. I have used various burning software (Roxio, Nero, Record Now, TMPGEnc DVD), and all have worked. I have also used all types of media +R and -R (Memorex, Kypermedia, Compusa, Vebatum, Optoplex), all have burned fine, very few coasters.

The 510 and is the newer model, it seems to be lower in price than the 500 was, I guess the technolgy got cheaper. Also, there is a newer 530 out now for internal use. Sony should be coming out with a 530 external soon.

  3. I'll have to check out the 530 internal.

You know anything about the 530?

The 530 is the 8X burning model. Internal is for Pre-Sale in the Sony web site for $249.99, no external yet.

I have had no problems with 4X Memorex DVD+R's (Riteks), they burn great at 4X.
