Does anyoine know what the problem ishere and a solutionwould be most welcome. The model of the camcorder is sony DCH-HC14E.

Try Windows Movie Maker or WinDV to test.

Assuming you've covered the basics, (i.e. turned the camcorder on, installed the most up to date drivers for the firewire card), could be a DirectX problem. You might want to try downloading and installing the latest version of DirectX.

Still think it may be a DirectX problem, try reregistering the file qdv.dll (this controls capture.)

In Windows click Start>Run and type

    regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll

You should get a dialog box pop up saying if it succeded. You might also try reregistering qcap.dll as well.

You haven't set the control method. In Moviefactory you have an option for Device Control which defaults to None, change it to MS 1394 and it should work.
